How Does Sound Healing Work?
Everything that exists is vibrating. All cells and all atoms are in motion, and therefore have a sound. Just as we aren't able to see ultraviolet and infrared light because we have a limited range of sight, so we can't hear many of the sounds around us because we have a limited range of hearing.
The rate at which we vibrate determines how we feel, because every emotion has a vibration. Music has such a big impact on us because it actually causes our emotions to vibrate. That's why some music leaves us feeling excited, while other music makes us feel sad, happy or peaceful.
Some scientists claim that every organ has a distinct vibration. There is evidence that heart cells vibrate at a heart resonance, while the liver cells vibrate at a liver resonance. This evidence shows that when we are in harmony, we would sound like a beautiful cord. When we get out of harmony internally, we would sound cacophonous.
There is a physical law called entrainment that is the foundation of sound healing. Entrainment can be seen as the magnetic force that brings everything back into a state of unity. When two vibrations that are similar are put together, they will become synchronized and vibrate at the same rate. This principle is in effect when one tuning fork is struck, and another tuning fork of the same note will vibrate. Entrainment is at work when women who spend a lot of time together end up menstruating at the same time. Or, when students are listening to a instructor they understand, their brain waves synchronize with the teacher and with one another.
Our emotions and body become entrained by the sounds we hear. Think about the difference in the way you feel when you hear the scream of a siren compared to the way you feel when you hear the healing rhythm of ocean waves. In sound healing, entrainment means we can attune and harmonize our body and emotions through the tones of our voice.
Our voice is a particularly powerful sound healing instrument. Religious ceremonies throughout time have harnessed the healing power of the voice in rituals to alter consciousness of the participants. Having an altered consciousness allows participants to have an experience of Spirit that they might not otherwise be able to have.
I use the voice in a similar way - to create shifts in consciousness. We all have habitual ways of looking at ourselves and at life. We become used to having a certain personality, and of seeing the world as having certain characteristics as well. We have repeated experiences because we keep the same perspective. Sound healing can give you a whole new perspective. One that is outside the box, and can be more expansive, joyous and loving. I start by sounding where you are, then help you shift to this more expansive place. It is organic, very powerful, and yet gentle.
This shift in consciousness can help you in several ways. One is that new choices become available that you couldn't have recognized before because you weren't attuned to them. Another is that you can become harmonized with what you want. For example, it is unlikely that you will be able to have a loving relationship if you are angry or fearful. Love has a high vibration, while fear and anger have a low one. I am talking about literal sounds that we could hear if our ears were equipped to hear them. These two vibrations are a mismatch; they won't be attracted to one another.
Voice work can help you become more attuned to wealth. It can also help couples become more attuned to one another, and to be able to have a deeper ability to hear one another's feelings. This work can also help single people make the shifts that can attract the partner they want.
